Our Story:  Who are the students behind Hidden Histories?

St. Malachy’s Memorial High School is located on the edge of the Bay of Fundy in Saint John, NB. With an approximate enrollment of 1100 students, our demographics reflect a rich mosaic of cultural, racial, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds. We are a dynamic urban school situated in a neighborhood with one of the highest child poverty rates in Canada standing at 27.3% according to the Saint John Human Development Council. St. Malachy’s hosts a large population of newcomers to Canada currently comprising 16% of our student body. We offer a comprehensive academic program including French Immersion and Advanced Placement classes alongside many extra-curricular activities. The original “Hidden Histories” project was created by our Indigenous Studies 120 class in 2023, and reflects our school community’s commitment to inclusivity and representation.

Hidden Histories: Spotlight on Black History is the second installment of the project.   It was created by students in Canadian History 122, Modern History 111, and Marketing 120.   It will be released in Feb. 2025 during Black History month.
